Development for more than a century
We go back a long way. With 130 years of practical experience in the solid board trade we have built up comprehensive knowledge to provide the market with the right products.
Our board can be found in many products all over the world. We dare to make the claim that everybody will have something at home that was made of Eska material.
The two Eska mills were founded by entrepreneurs who saw a future in strawboard production. The mill in Sappemeer was founded in 1879 and the one in Hoogezand in 1897. In 1993 both mills merged into one company.
From straw to recycled paper
The history of the straw board sector was characterised by good times following bad times, depending on the availability of straw. This was reason to start experimenting with recycled paper as a raw material in 1934. In 1970 and 1971 the factories in Hoogezand and Sappemeer moved over completely to using recycled paper as a raw material.
Origins in the railways
After the Second World War Eska was the proud supplier of the famous railway ticket board. It was used to make railway tickets all over the world. This is where our name comes from - Eska represents the letters 'S' and 'K', short for Spoorkaartjes Karton, the Dutch words for Railway tickets board.
More than 250,000 tonnes of solid board per year
