Jasper van der Toorn
Technical services department intern
My name is Jasper van der Toorn and I am 18 years old. I am currently in my third year at the Alfa-College in Groningen, where I am taking the Intermediate Vocational Education (MBO) study programme in Engineering level 4, specialising in electrical engineering. My favourite hobbies include working with computers and watching films and TV series.
During the second year of my study programme, I needed to find a work placement position, which I did on the Cooperation Organisation for Vocational Education, Training and the Labour Market (SBB) website. It was on this website that I came across Eska, which was offering a work placement to second year students, so I applied. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful on that occasion, because it turned out to be a work placement specialising more in mechanical engineering. Whereas my specialism is more electrical engineering. In the end, I re-applied for a work placement position for my third year, and this time I was successful in obtaining a position in electrical engineering.
My study programme requires me to write three reports: one about the company, what the company does and the background to the company. I also had to write two technical reports on two different machines. By doing this, I hope to learn how a technical report is put together and how exactly a machine works. My work placement will ensure that I will gain experience which I can use later on and learn more that will help me in my study programme.
